Position Objectives

*Design, synthesize, analyze and formulate commercially viable and patentable new materials suitable for contact lens, packaging solution and lens care formulations to meet desired product requirements including claim for unmet medical needs in vision care area.

*Perform formulation and process research and development to create consistent and repeatable contact lens materials and packaging solutions.

*Synthesize new materials to meet product requirements.

*Supporting contributor on product development & process development teams, executing experimental plans, data gathering and analysis of results.

*Collaborate on recommendations based on trends, correlations, response variables, DOE’s etc. to better understand process interdependencies.

*External vendor interaction ensuring material synthesis, manufacturing method and analysis of chemistries used for contact lens and packaging solution materials meet product requirements.

*Interact and support raw material supplier synthesis scale up and optimization issues, provide problem solving support when required.

*Skilled in writing technical reports and presentation of data analysis to scientific and non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

*Participate in the design and analysis of chemistries used for contact lens materials and lens care solutions.

*Conceives ideas, tests and develop solutions to problem solve chemistry, process and analytical issues.

*Present results in both written and oral formats.

*Literature and patent reviews.

*Assists with patent portfolio strategy development.

*Conversant with statistical experimental designs.

Requirements

Degree in Scientific Discipline. PhD in Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/ Material Science.

Special Skills: Computer Literacy with skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint. Strong Communication, Organization, Report Writing, and Presentation skills a must. Must be able to develop working relationships with various internal core competencies, manage outside suppliers, influence others outside of their immediate control and lead team members.

Entry Level - 5 years in chemistry laboratory setting and/or process development

*Understanding of primary function, concepts & philosophies.

*Breadth of Expertise: General assignments, project management within function, individual contributor.

*Problem Solving: Conceives technology solutions and applies to solve problems of medium complexity with independence.

*Customer focus: Customer/vendor contact primarily to problem solve.

As required by New York State's pay transparency bill, Bausch + Lomb provides a good faith minimum and maximum salary range of compensation for roles that can or will be performed, in New York State. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For New York State, the range of starting annual pay for this role is $73,000 to $110,000.
